AI Bias is tricky. It's coded into the algorithms themselves, which means automation must be monitored and carefully implemented. Here are a few projects seeking to address this.
Smart Makeup Patent
Joy Buolamwini’s documentary Coded Bias biases exposes biometric surveillance technologies that make darker-skinned people more likely to be misidentified as criminals. Annika invented Patent #11837019 for Smart Makeup, which uses nanotechnologies to disrupt surveillance identification abilities, and she plans to seek university help to develop it as an adult with more time and funding!

Annika also attends Greg Abbott's monthly Artificial Advisory Council Meetings in the Texas capital. She reviews and documents key takeaways post-session to update Texans on the outlook of AI automation in government, legislation, and policy.
