Advocacy Opportunities for Teens!

  • HB 2060, Governor Abbott created an Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council. The council includes seven people, two of whom are women, and zero who appear to be non-white. Bias busters will attend the monthly Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council meetings at the state capitol. If you want to join us, please contact Annika! More info: https://aiadvisorycouncil.texas.gov/s/meetings  . You can also watch the hearing live at https://senate.texas.gov/av-live.php.

  • The Girls Empowerment Network calls for teenage women of color to apply for a "Spark Change Facilitator" position. This amazing opportunity hones your advocacy skills, lets you host a bridge building event, and introduces you to a cohort of other ambitious women. Bias Buster's founder, Annika Singh, became introduced to the community issues we work to solve from this program. The application will likely not be open until fall 2024.

  • Book Ban advocacy is another great way to get involved in your larger opportunity. Our partner Teen Central offers a "Save the Books: Teen Leadership Circle," where your responsibility will be publishing creative mediums for other teens to engage with books, hosting monthly webinars, and interviewing authors on their book ban experience. You will also receive a $1000 stipend is chosen! The application is open, and the deadline is Aug. 23!

  • Bias Busters owes their funding to the YMCA after winning a grant to carry out our dream. Annika & Zoe applied for the Changemakers Conference, a National competition with a $5000 prize. If you feel an urge to create change in your community, please apply! The application for 2025 will open soon.
